Lawyer’s Polo Cup

On July 24th, 2010, not even pouring rain and cloudy skies could stop polo players and guests from cheering, mingling, and having a good time. Four teams took to the field for three final matches, and the winners of this year’s Lawyer’s Polo Cup were unveiled. Despite the weather, the audience’s enthusiasm kept players optimistic and the day bright.

The third annual Lawyer’s Polo Cup, held in Toronto, brought people from all over the world together for an unforgettable day. The tournament welcomed polo lovers and players Australia, Argentina, India, Slovakia, and many other countries, year after year. Each team represented a sponsor, which included Dolce Vita Magazine, Porsche, Calvin Klein and Reed Asset Management Group. Proudly cheering on their polo players, sponsors and guests stayed dry under white tents and enjoyed a delicious Argentinean barbeque.

Funds raised by the generous sponsors and attendees are being awarded to two special causes. The first being True Patriot Love, an organization that supports members and families of the Canadian military, and the second being Polo Canada. In August 2011, a new young team will be competing in the world championships in Toronto, and this event is helping make that happen.

The Lawyer’s Polo Association, with the help of its co-founders, Justin R.G. Fogarty, partner at Davis LLP, and Eduardo L. Bereterbide, organized a fantastic event. These visionaries joined two of their passions – their career in law and their passion for polo – to make a one-of-a-kind connection. “Winston Churchill, one of the great leaders of our time said, ‘all you need in this world is a passport and a polo handicap,’ and I’ve seen that all through my life,” says Fogarty. “This tournament is bringing people from all over the world in fellowship, in friendship, and that’s part of the amazing thing about polo.”

Fogarty and Bereterbide hope to see everyone again next year for another great Lawyer’s Polo Cup tournament in Dubai.
